PENDRELL SOUND

 Monday, August 11, 2025

Woke up this morning to wind, again, broadside….again, and noticed that we had swung way over the other direction. John and Greg noticed that Bill’s stern tie wasn’t visible and Bill reported that it snapped around 1AM, and that he and Lorraine sat up and stood watch for a couple hours until they were sure we were still safe! Yikes! Our shore tie was still attached, but if that one went then we’d have a fire drill. It appeared his chafed enough to eventually shred the webbing. It is so interesting how the wind can funnel through this back bay and even reach us from the side, truly we are surrounded by trees in a little basin. Anyway, the wind is supposed to settle today at least back here but I see it is still blowing like crazy out in the Georgia straits and into Campbell River. We are staying one more night here before breaking up and heading to our next destination which will be Grace Harbour. I am ready for a change of scenery. Connie and I went for another long paddle around the shoreline, taking in the starfish and other creatures. As we rounded the far shoreline headed back towards the boat, we noticed a mama and baby seal in a little indentation and stopped to watch. She quickly got nervous and told her baby to dive and they disappeared. We slowly paddled on then noticed a group of about 6 or 8 seals off shore from us, just staring us down. We were in between them and shore. They didn’t take their eyes off of us for a good 5 minutes. All we could surmise is that maybe it was a seal nursery and there were others parked along the shoreline while the Moms hunted? Not sure but it was just interesting how they watched us. Tonight we had our farewell dinner with Bill and Lorraine, as they are departing for Campbell River to go golfing for a few days. Bill smoked steaks in his Traeger and made garlic mashed potatoes, I made Canlis salad, and Connie made the most delicious baby brussels sprouts in her air fryer, drizzled with balsamic glaze. Another Feast! We taught Bill and Lorraine how to play “Whiskey Poker” which Bill ended up winning and then called it a night.

Nice Day for a Float and a Paddle
