PENDRELL SOUND

 Sunday, August 10, 2025

Today was a bit of a stressful day because the wind came up and was relentless. Frank had pulled out first thing in the morning to head over to Campbell River thus we lost our second shore tie (we have one attached from our boat). Our dinner menu for the evening was going to be clams and oysters so I decided to make sourdough bread, which literally took me ALL DAY. It was actually ok because Connie, who was soaking up some rays on her paddle board out back, said it was too chilly with the wind to be in the water. We ended up putting a second shore tie out early afternoon just to be safe. The wind was hitting us all broadside and more than a few boats in the bay ended up peeling out to go elsewhere, some of whom had just arrived that morning. Later in the afternoon another SYC boat came in to anchor next to us when the wind was really whipping. The skipper’s wife actually jumped into the water to swim to shore with the shore tie and it seemed to be a very precarious situation with the wind and waves, so John and Greg motored over to offer their help but were waved away with “we got this”.  The young daughter or granddaughter was up at the bow messing with the anchor chain which was also concerning. Seemed like a lot of unsafe circumstances in our book. John won’t even let me operate the anchor and windless just for safety reasons. Many years ago we were in Tenedos Bay when a kid on one of those explorer charters got his hand caught in the windless and had to be transported out to the hospital. Made us sick to think about it and I think that is always in the back of his mind. Our dinner was absolutely fabulous with Lorraine making a nice garlic butter pasta to go with the steamed clams, Connie making a crisp green salad, and the fresh sourdough. I also made my red curry coconut milk preparation of clams, also delish. Bill barbecued some oysters and made some special sauces to go with them, such a delicacy. We cleaned up and retired inside to teach Bill and Lorraine how to play Mexican Train, which Greg won one and John the other. Great evening once again.
