Faced a massive cleanup
from our dinner party last night so that was the first order of business this
morning. We were underway by about 9:30 headed for the next destination, Dent
Island Lodge, for our annual group dinner there. They have a regular restaurant
on site but also what they call the Rapids Grill which is an open air
restaurant where the counter seats are in a U shape with the chef in the
center, so we can watch him make these creations. The menu is about 6 course
tasting menu and is always phenomenal so we are looking forward to our dinner
tonight. After getting docked and settled at Dent Island, we all went to the
marina next door, Fisherman’s Landing, to check out the new facilities and eat
lunch. We seem to be always eating! They had planned to have a full service
restaurant open this summer but a week before the grand opening the chef they
had hired had a family medical emergency and had to quit. They do have a food
truck on site which was quite good. John and Frank went out fishing for ling cod
and “bam! boom!” came back with 2 huge ling cod within 30 minutes. We started
our evening soiree with a rousing and loud Happy Hour on our boat – sans
appetizers since we had a huge meal coming. We had such a nice evening at the
Rapids Grill, I can’t even remember all the concoctions we ate, but I will try:
Slices of raw salmon in a ceviche type preparation with pickled watermelon; a
mini tuna tostada; sweet potato gnocchi with mushrooms; halibut and prawns
wrapped in zucchini ribbons; lamb with corn sauce and chimichurri; and a
platter of bit sized desserts including a mini raspberry tart, a dark chocolate
truffle, a madeline, and a lollipop of frozen yogurt dipped in nuts. Of course
all of these things had fabulous sauces that I can’t remember!
