Day 23 – Vixen Inlet to Fools Inlet - June 4, 2018

Quiche on the menu this morning for breakfast, the usual spicy sausage with sautéed onion and bell pepper, grated cheese, chopped parsley.  Another rainy morning as we motored out of Vixen enroute to our next destination. We found ourselves 3 hours later in a place called Fools Inlet which is just around the corner from the Anan Nature Conservancy where they run bear watching tours during July and August. We tried to get permits from the forest service to do the bear tour but no luck. We had a wonderful  encounter with nature today.  A pod of porpoises came over to our boat to play with us and spent the next 20 minutes swimming next to the boat and along the bow as we were underway, diving and chasing each other from side to side. Eventually they changed course and swam off but we felt so blessed to be chosen as their playmate for 20 minutes!  They are so beautiful and playful!  We arrived at our destination around 1:30pm, Fool’s Inlet, which was another beautiful bay and we had it all to ourselves. It rained off and on, sometimes pelted, but eventually cleared up enough in the late afternoon so John and the kids went fishing again. They were back in an hour with no fish, no bites. Played endless games of Mexican Train and had a late dinner. Dinner tonight was crab fettucini alfredo (and we still have more crab to eat), tomato basil mozz green salad, and garlic bread. Another day in remote Alaska, still have yet to see another boat.
