CAMPBELL RIVER BACK TO GOWLLAND HARBOUR

 Wednesday, August 6, 2025

This morning is provisioning day before we have to check out at 11AM, so Connie and I hoofed it up to Save On Foods at 7:30 this morning and did our shopping. We were hoping to get over to Prideaux Haven or somewhere in the Desolation area but the boys reported that there were thunderstorms incoming and some unsettled weather, so they decided it was best to go hunker down in Gowlland Harbour again, which is just a 20 minute jaunt across the channel. Departing Campbell River, we were just outside the marina with the whaler still tied to our hip when a heavy aluminum boat came screaming by us at close range throwing us a huge wave. The whaler rose up violently crashing against the big boat a couple of times, and the third time the bow line attached to the big boat just snapped! Luckily we had the tow line clipped on but still the bow of the tender swung around to where it was only secured by the stern line. What a jerk!! Anyway, we quickly untied the stern line and righted the whaler so it was facing forward again and proceeded to move forward and tow it out of there. Wish we noticed the name of that boat so we could follow up with some words. We made our way to Gowlland Harbour and dropped anchor, with Abells following up shortly behind us, the wind causing us to swing as they rafted up to us making things interesting! Once all secured we had a quiet afternoon until the thunderstorms rolled in around 3:30 and then did we have weather! The skies opened and just poured/pelted/dumped on us for quite some time. The thunder was also rolling through and the wind, so it was quite a day. Dinner was ling cod piccata which was delicious as always, followed by some Mexican Train.

JUST DUMPING on us in Gowlland Harbour
