OH yes the deluge indeed arrived! Radar shows that this giant swath of green will be here all day, green and dark green. I guess we will find out if the leak referenced earlier in the trip has indeed been fixed. John is pretty sure he found the cause of the last leak which was a poorly installed bracket (not by us) topside which holds the life raft – or used to hold the life raft, now it holds our cooler. Since we tow a 16’ boat behind us, that is our life raft! Anyway, he fixed and sealed it when we were in Campbell River so fingers crossed that was the culprit. It has been POURING all morning, harder at times which must be the dark green on the radar. It is supposed to be done by 8PM tonight and the rest of the week looks dry and lovely – let us hope the forecasters are right! I was going to wait until it lightened up to go check my pot but mid morning decided I needed an adventure, so bundled up in my full Grunden rubber rainsuit, boots and gloves and set off to check the pot. It is not cold or windy, just very very wet, so as long as I am warm I can tolerate the rain. I ended up with just one more very nice crab so at least we have enough for dinner now, I think Crab Louies are on the menu for tonight! Guess I need to whip up some Louis dressing this afternoon. Crab are cooked and I am about to begin picking the meat. I rebaited the pot with chicken thighs so maybe I will get a little more crab for more delicious applications like crab melts or crab dip. Wait, I almost forgot to mention the most exciting part which was a Black Bear was rolling rocks on the beach by my crab pot! She couldn’t care less that I was there so I was able to motor up close to shore and watch for a while. I violated my cardinal rule of boating which is never leave the mother ship without a camera and binoculars, and that had me cursing myself as this was a chubby healthy large black bear. I will have to remember to go over there again tomorrow morning at low tide and see if she is back.

The rain stopped around 4PM! Excellent! I had such good luck here with prawns last year that I thought…I can’t leave here tomorrow without a couple drops on the traps. So at 5:30PM I ran out and dropped two prawn traps right before dinner. John thought we should check them once before bed, so we went out at 8:45PM (literally 2 minutes from our boat, not a big trip) and were rewarded with the mother lode, 230 big fat prawns! Love this place for harvesting shellfish. We rebaited and left overnight, then processed our catch which means twisting their heads off and put in the fridge. Tomorrow I will vacuum seal but now it is time for bed.

Geared Up and ready to check the pots!

Big drip for emphasis on rain situation
