John arrived via Kenmore Air at 11:30, and we decided to take off and make a run for our next destination, Blind Channel, about 4 hours away. The currents cooperated in that slack through the Yuculta Rapids was set for around 3:30, and we are good transiting one hour either side of slack. As we approached the point where the rapids began, there was a large concentration of boats milling about as it is the staging area while waiting to transit, and many boats go through both directions during slack – sometimes a bit of a sh*t show, but not today as we were one of the first going through and had no opposing traffic. Some days the radio is alive with people cursing at one another for perceived or real ineptness as they transit through, most of the time it’s for throwing up an egregious wake in the narrow passage, which not only makes it difficult for other boaters but there are homes and marinas on both sides of the channel and it destroys their docks and the boats moored at the docks.

We arrived at Blind Channel around 4:30 and were treated to beautiful warm sunshine on our back deck as we docked stern in, bow out. Blind Channel is a resort that is a 4th generation business, the youngest two kids now in high school. Their great grandparents founded the resort and carved out a life in the wilderness for the generations to come, all of which still live on the premises. It is very remote, only accessible by float plane or boat. They have a stellar restaurant onsite that operates during the summer, along with a well stocked store with groceries, liquor, bait, and gifts. Behind the marina there is a series of well maintained trails that wind up into the forest which we normally enjoy, but with our late arrival and 6:30 dinner reservations, it didn’t work out this stop. They also run a thriving water taxi and fuel business which really makes everything go. We love to support this marina always! We had an incredible dinner, cribbage, and in bed by 9. Great day.

All the boats behind us staged to go through the rapids
