JUNE 28, 2022 – THORNE BAY TO TOLSTOI BAY

Today we had planned to go to Kasaan Bay and see the native carvers in action, but our intel on the docks at Thorne revealed that nothing in Kasaan was open. Thus instead of heading into Ketchikan a day early (one option), we pulled out of Thorne and went around the corner into Tolstoi Bay into a small notch which was a little cove big enough for a couple boats to anchor, but we were the only boat anchored. There was, however, quite a nice floating home complex tied to shore but we saw little activity and didn’t go too close to investigate in respect for their privacy. Boys went fishing (skunked, except for multiple rockfish that kept getting on the line which they released), and Lisa and I put the shrimp pots down near another pot we spied (we were also skunked). Shrimping when you don’t know the territory is challenging! We will hopefully do better once we get to familiar places in the Broughtons.

Coast Guard Heli flew right over us as we left Thorne Bay
