Day 79 – Joe Cove to Lagoon Cove – July 30, 2018

Today was the hottest day we have had on our trip. The fog was gone by 8AM and again not a cloud in the sky, the air was warm, and the winds were still. All the elements for a hot day. Pulled anchor around 10AM and motored at a very relaxed 8 knots down to our next destination Lagoon Cove. We ran from topside most of the way and it actually became too hot underway for me to be up there, and the temps just kept rising. We got a great spot on the dock at Lagoon Cove and met the new owners, Dan and Kelly, who appear to be in their 40’s, and were very welcoming. They moved from Northern Minnesota (so the winters here will be a piece of cake) and this is their second full season of running Lagoon Cove. They have been busy making some improvements and enhancements to the marina (like great WiFi) while retaining the spirit of its past which includes the 5PM potluck happy hour where they supply a bucket of freshly caught prawns and cocktail sauce and everyone else brings a nibble to share and their own drink. The marina is pretty full today and the dock staff is very pleasant and helpful. We are so glad to see someone take over this marina and keep it going, it’s one of our favorite stops. But back to the weather….so warm that I couldn’t be in the salon, I spent much of the afternoon downstairs in our stateroom where it was nice and cool, natural air conditioning coming from the water. Remember, we’ve just come from Alaska and aren’t acclimated to summer weather yet! Didn’t do much this afternoon and had a light dinner of salmon and green salad after the Happy Hour. Didn't put shrimp pots down today (even though it's a great area for shrimping) because Skipper John says we have to leave at 6:30AM tomorrow to get out into the Johnstone Straits before they whip up, so there just wasn't enough time. It’s now 9:30PM and the heat has abated, leaving us with a beautiful warm summer evening. Good night all!
