Day 69 – Work Bay to Oliver Cove – July 20, 2018

The rain continues! Enough already, we want some sunshine! Well at least it isn’t cold, it’s just wet. Today we decided on a new float plan and are boogying south headed for River’s Inlet for some fishing with maybe a stop at Hakai Passage, another good fishing spot. John went fishing for 3 hours this morning and hooked up about 8 fish in the process but again, none were large enough to keep except a pink (humpie) which aren’t the best tasting fish, so he threw that one back too. They get mushy really fast. So we’re going to head for the known fishing grounds and see what we can get there. Maybe in the process we will ease into the nicer weather as well, one can hope. Today’s journey was full of humpback whale sightings! As I said, it never gets old. In one instance we were motoring along (I’ve been doing most of the running the past couple days) when all of a sudden a humpback blew just in front of us proceeded by a big breach, almost completely out of the water. It was very exciting. There were several other whale sightings with blows and dorsal fins and in one case a very large fluke. Couldn’t get the camera in time. Absent are the eagles, it’s interesting that they just simply all but disappeared once we were back down in northern Canada. Nobody else was in Oliver Cove this time, had the rainy evening to ourselves. The sun finally did come out in time for sunset which was magnificent! Tonight I made seared scallops with saffron risotto, and a side salad of mixed greens, goat cheese, and candied pecans for dinner. I bought the scallops flash frozen when we were in Petersburg at the local Icicle Seafoods retail store and they were delish!
