Day 64 – Moored in Ketchikan – July 15, 2018

Had a very low key day today trying to rest the angry hip joint. Read a lot, surfed internet while we have WiFi today, did the rest of the laundry. We are moored in between the seaplane fleet on one side and the charter fishing fleet on the other side. What does this mean? Well with 4 cruise ships a day in port here in Ketchikan it means starting at 6-7AM, we have LOTS of activity on both docks as the fleets prepare for passengers. Then the passengers start streaming in and the boat ramp is right outside our windows so people are hooting and hollering, laughing and talking loudly as they are so excited to get out fishing. The seaplanes, of which there are 4 or 5 in operation at all times, are fueling up and warming their engines waiting for their passengers to board. It’s just bustling with activity but the point is that it’s not very peaceful in the mornings here! There is also lots of boat traffic in the channel in front of us, including the daily turnover of mega cruise ships, so we rock and roll in the slip a lot. John went out fishing this morning but came back with nothing but stories of the two pink salmon he hooked up, a rockfish, a perch, and all of them he threw back. The elusive King Salmon run appears to be over around here. We BBQ’d burgers in the evening and played endless rounds of cribbage to pass the time. The weather is overcast but not raining…yet.
