Day 62 – Vixen Harbor to Ketchikan – July 13, 2018

Beautiful morning, skies have cleared and we have sunshine! However we could not leave early because the tide is ultra low, so we hung out and had a leisurely morning sitting outside in the sun waiting for the tide to come in. Finally around 11AM John deemed it safe to exit Vixen and we made our way outside and on down to Ketchikan. Wind was blowing pretty good when we got here and not in a favorable direction for docking. We had a tight spot and the wind pushing us off the dock, so a bit of a hairy situation but John and our crew soon got us secured. Who should we see upon landing? Karen and Roger Orth from our yacht club! They were on “Sinbad” about a 90’ boat with 5 crew and 2 or 3 couples. They are just beginning their trek through Alaska and will be back down in September. So great to see them. So far we have yet to experience the rainy Ketchikan days as it’s been beautiful every time we’ve been here. John, Beth and Marc walked uptown for a quick tour while I went to find WiFi in our rental car. We had dinner at Bar Harbor restaurant, and afterwards drove out to the fish hatchery at Herring Creek, about 9 miles south of town. We saw a lot of eagles and one black bear that came right under the bridge near us feeding on salmon carcasses that a fisherman dumped off the bridge.
