Day 55 – Moored in Sitka Harbor – July 6, 2018

∞Well the weather Gods have decided Sitka has had too much sun, so this morning we are all socked in with fog and the temps have plummeted. Back to jackets and warm layers. We knew Alaska was going to be like this and we are OK with basically missing our normal Seattle summer because we get spurts of the gorgeous weather from time to time to remind us of what is happening at home. Actually we feel ourselves quite fortunate for the weather we have had up here overall. We ran into a family last summer that had just returned from Alaska and their words were “never again” and that “it rained for 73 days out of the 80 days” they were up here. I think we’ve been super lucky so far.

∞Today is a work day, John is changing the oil in the generators and hopefully receiving a part that he ordered for delivery today to work on the watermaker. It’s working just fine but on the verge of not making good tasting water – it’s in need of some treatments and filters. I will be doing some “housecleaning” inside, laundry, stocking up on the next set of groceries, and maybe doing some cooking as well. We have terrible WiFi here on the dock, mostly non-existent, so I am heading up town to find a coffee shop with WiFi to get some things done.

∞Yesterday we learned John’s grandmother passed away, she was nearly 99 years old. She passed peacefully with all of her three children under one roof.

∞Dinner was out tonight at “Ludvig’s” for the second time, such a gem of a restaurant in Sitka. It’s located in a cute little house on a rough and tumble street next to the fish processing companies and docks. You step inside to a European feel with warm tones and beautiful tile bar. It has only about 7 tables and another 8 seats at the bar and even the locals can’t get in without a reservation months out. We were headed to their upstairs wine bar again but popped our heads in the restaurant just to see if they had any cancellations and lo and behold they took us! The chef was trained in Grenada Spain so their menu has a Mediterranean slant with tapas, paella, and also greek influences. She also makes the best chowder we have ever had, and drizzled with chili oil it’s a little spicy. Tried to convince them to give out the recipe but apparently it’s a highly protected secret. No pictures today!
