Day 4 - Campbell River - May 16, 2018

Spent the day in Campbell River getting much needed provisions, like wine and vodka, for our next 14 days in the wilderness.  After the essential stop at Starbuck’s at the head of the dock, we shopped for produce and fresh items at the Canadian Superstore which is a giant food market with housewares and clothes, pharmacy, etc.  (e.g. Walmart). Then we shopped the Canadian Tire store which one would think is like a Les Schwab but in fact it is Target, Cabela’s, Ace Hardware, Radio Shack, West Marine, and O’Reilly’s Auto all wrapped up in one. It is fascinating to wander the aisles to see all the things you didn’t know you needed. Shannon and I searched for live basil plants at all available stores and did not find any, so that was disappointing. John worked on getting all of our lines and fenders measured up and labeled so we don’t have to guess, and David worked on getting their hot water heater fixed. I took a nap.  Our fridges are now full of produce and wine, and our freezers full of meat, so now we have to eat everything we catch. Shannon and David’s friend Cathy arrived today so now we are a party of 5. We had cocktails and played cards for our Happy Hour on the Lucky Dog, then wandered up to the Riptide Pub for dinner. As you can see, not much to report from our day in Campbell River, it was a day of rest before we embark on our trip through the next straits, the Johnstones. It is lovely however to be among the eagles, they are plentiful here in the harbor and we enjoy the cadence of their voices.

  1. Canadian Tire is my favorite store! Also, just FYI, a local once told us that her nickname for Campbell River is "Scrambled Liver."
