Well our oven broke today, not sure why, but this is a sorry turn of
events because it’s some obscure euro brand with parts very scarce and customer
service somewhere in Arizona. John thinks its the mother board, but it had something to do with interruption of power when the generator was fired up this morning. I am super bummed because I spent a lot of time planning all my fun cooking
projects for the summer – my entertainment – and now it looks bleak. If we can’t
get it fixed I may be purchasing a convection Microwave in Juneau to get us through the
summer. First world problems, I know.
We had another early morning motoring up to
Prince Rupert in skunky weather but at least the seas were following. It was
blowing about 20mph from the south so manageable going north, would have been a
different story going south. Arrived in
Prince Rupert around 11am and got right on the dock at Prince Rupert Yacht and
Rowing Club (“PRYRC”) with the wind gusting to 30mph, but the current was going the
opposite direction so getting on the dock was surprisingly uneventful. John did
a masterful job getting us in. Some dude on the vessel behind us felt it
necessary to tell me how to tie up my own boat which I so appreciated in the
pouring rain in a stressful situation. After securing both boats we were all
elated to have a nice pub at the top of the dock where we could escape rain,
and have someone else cook for us. Shannon and Cathy went on a recon mission to
locate all the vital services (grocery, laundry, etc) while I returned to the
boat. My bad hip (“Hippy” as Shannon calls it) is irritated with all the activity
of the past few days so I chose to rest for the afternoon. PRYRC is in a great location with lots of
shops and restaurants within walking distance although the core of the town is
about a 10 min walk. The power on the dock is 30 amp but barely supports any
load so we’ve blown the breaker a couple of times and have had to engage the
use of our generator. Unfortunately we
didn’t get the memo that Saturday night in Prince Rupert is rather busy so we
were aced out of any other restaurant options and ate at the same pub instead.
I think we’ve had our fill of the Breakers Pub. But we all agreed the food was
pretty good. No pictures of Prince Rupert
today because
quite frankly, we just can’t see past the windshield and need full on rain gear
to walk up the dock. But I threw in another waterfall picture because I am enamored with them....this one from our stay at Bottleneck a few days ago.
