Day 12 – Butedale to Klewnuggit - May 24, 2018

Shannon, Cathy, and I decided to go on an early morning dinghy ride (5:30 am) at low tide to see if we could find a Spirit Bear before we departed. No luck again. Today’s run is 6 hours as we continue our progress north. We like to travel early so we get to our destination by lunch and have the rest of the day to go shrimping/crabbing/fishing. This morning two seals were fishing in the bay near the boats so we can finally confirm there is life up here! Saw one eagle today too.  John was able to fix the center wiper yesterday so that is a relief since I think a lot of rain is in our future.  Our autopilot continues to have a voltage issue resulting in an annoying alarm going off every few minutes. He is hoping to get that fixed soon too. Other than that, all is running smoothly on board. Another beautiful day cruising up the Grenville Channel to Klewnuggit. Saw some barges along the way but have yet to see the giant cruise ships up here. Arrived at Klewnuggit around 1:30 and anchored in the northermost bay. It is absolutely gorgeous here with snowcapped mountains all around us. Shannon and I immediately prepared to go shrimping and crabbing and headed out around 2:30 to set the pots. picked the pots at 5pm, and only got 3 shrimp and one crab, marginally legal. Left the crab pots to soak overnight in hopes of a payoff tomorrow. Dinner on Lucky Dog – Fettuccini Alfredo and BBQ chicken with delicious bag-o-salad that had expired on 5/18 but still survived to be consumed. We are the only boats in this large inlet except for a commercial shrimp boat that hovers out in the outer bay. Klewnuggit reminds me of Pendrell Sound (sans warm water) – lots to do here, exploring, shrimping, crabbing, and there is a lake that is about 15 feet above sea level that flows out into the bay at low tide with a roar, and at high tide is just a quiet stream. We hope to explore more tomorrow.

Enroute to Klewnuggit, beautiful seas again.
