Here in Hoonah we were assigned to a single long dock about 300’ long where multiple boats side tie, but there is no power on the dock so we have to run our generator. Lucky Dog is on the next dock in a slip with power. Our dock attracts flocks of ravens who scavenge the beaches and the boats for scraps, so the dock is covered with crushed shells and marine body parts they’ve left behind. Ravens like crows are extremely intelligent and resourceful so they do entertain us. This morning when I got up I spied a Raven on the boat across the dock with what looked like an entire orange, just taking flight. Not sure if those folks left their garbage on the back of the boat or what, but the Ravens found it!! Eagles are also prevalent and perch around the perimeter of the harbor on the very substantial and well built breakwater, screeching messages to their fellow eagles. I am taking Shannon to the airport for a quick round trip to Juneau for some supplies (it’s a 20 minute flight), then we are casting off and headed for Glacier Bay. We may stop off and fish for halibut as we were told by a local where to fish for them near the mouth of Glacier Bay. It’s a 3 hour cruise over there so will see what the water is like when we get there. More later, not sure when we’ll have connectivity again.
