I have decided I really love this cute little town. Today we walked the other direction for about a mile and a half to the Tonka Seafood Company near the ferry dock because Stephanie had read about them in the visitor’s guide and wanted to buy some smoked salmon. I really enjoyed the walk and was admiring the homes which are modest but very well kept up as I mentioned, people here really show their pride in ownership. Tonka was out on a pier with a tiny retail office full of freshly canned and packaged smoked salmon and other seafood. We bought some canned smoked salmon and a big bag of local prawns – 5lbs for $30! I thought it was a bargain! On the walk back we stopped into a marine store which of course the captains love to peruse. John bought a neoprene waterproof jacket that is sure to keep him dry and warm during those cold fishing mornings. After dropping our purchases at the boat we walked up to Inga’s Galley for lunch and it was fantastic! They serve seafood and Thai food and all of it was excellent. Then it was time to say goodbye to the Wardens as they had to catch a 3PM plane and I needed to do some reprovisioning. After securing and stowing the groceries for our next leg I went back out to do some tourist shopping. They have a fantastic book store that had an impressive children’s section and also great artwork and tasteful gifts. I bought a book about wolves and can’t wait to read it. It’s 5:30 now, and the pouring driving rain is intermittently sprinkled with sunshine but can’t complain. We’ve really scored on weather this week. A quiet night is in order, early to bed as we are departing at 6:30AM to transit south through “Christmas Tree Lane” or as it’s officially named, Wrangell Narrows. No pictures today.
