Awoke
to blue skies and warm sun, aren’t we so lucky this early in the season to
enjoy such beautiful weather! Today we are transiting to Codville Lagoon, a
short 3 hour run where we will spend two nights. Shrimping is good in Codville
so we will be putting pots down this afternoon and also maybe some ling cod
fishing. We had a gorgeous glassy smooth cruise and as we cruised into the
narrow entrance to Codville Lagoon, 4 orcas were just coming out of the lagoon,
so all we could do was take the boat our of gear and get the camera ready! I
didn’t want to miss the up close encounter so basically pointed my camera in
the general direction and hoped to capture some pictures! These incredibly
beautiful and graceful creatures with their synchronized swimming passed right alongside
our boat and one went under the boat right where I was standing, it’s just so
cool to see them up close and in the wild, what luck! We motored to the back of
the lagoon where we found ourselves the only occupants. After getting settled
of course Shannon and I had to get out the shrimp pots and go out for a drop.
We decided only soak them for an hour and see what we got, but we only yielded
about 30 out of 4 pots. That’s a lot of work for 30 shrimp, many of them quite
small. But we do this for the fun of it, yes it’s a lot of work, but we love
the thrill of the hunt. We finished just in time as the sunny skies faded and
gave way to rain that became quite impressive over the course of the evening.
After hot showers had by all, we gathered on our boat for baked chicken thighs
in lemon and olives, smashed potatoes, and Caesar salad. Another great day.
