May 3, 2022 - Smuggler's Cove to Campbell River

What a great sleep we had, finally gearing down. Bought some new flannel sheets from LL Bean this year, tiring of the cheap Costco flannels that claim they are from Portugal yet they pill after a few washings. I did a lot of research on these sheets and supposedly they are rated really high as flannel sheets go, and so far I am pleased with the quality. It’s still a bit chilly in the evenings and mornings so we are staying cozy.

Woke up to a couple of issues this morning, our lower diesel heater decided to stop working and David and Shannon’s generator wouldn’t fire up. Good thing today is Campbell River day, we have 2 nights’ moorage schedule for May 3-4 so hoping to get these things resolved. It’s also a big provisioning day because the next grocery store is 10 days away in Prince Rupert so we will be off the grid for awhile. Of course we both have freezers stuffed with provisions, but it’s the fresh vegetables, fruit, and dairy items we need to stock.

We pulled the anchor around 7:30AM, and left beautiful Smuggler's Cove with Campbell River our next destination. It was another nice day on the water, with calm seas (and pouring rain), and we arrived at Campbell River around 2PM and settled into our moorage. While the boys tackled their respective mechanical issues, Shannon and I set out to scope out the shopping opportunities, she needed picture hangers and I was on the hunt for a fresh basil plant, so we headed for Canadian Tire. Yes, a misleading name because it not only has a tire center but is like a Dick’s Sporting Goods and Ace Hardware on steroids. It has everything you could think of needing. Except….a nice healthy basil plant apparently. The plants in the garden center looked quite battered. After showers and a glass of wine, we gathered on Lucky Dog and commenced the first of what will be many rounds of cards. David has suggested we keep a running score of our hearts game for the entire trip and see where it goes, and so far it’s looking good for me being in first place. We will see how the long game goes. After a nice dinner at the Riptide at the top of the dock, followed by a couple more rounds of cards, we retired to our cozy beds and called it another successful day, albeit rainy. I don’t have any interesting pictures for you today, just trust me when I say it’s gray and rainy. I am sure I will have more interesting things to report as our trip progresses.

Oh - if you're interested in seeing where we are at any given time, download this app (if you have an iphone) and you can track our location.
