Day 35 – Reid Inlet to Bartlett Cove – June 16, 2018

Because yesterday’s post was so interminably long I will try to make this one concise. Our anchorage in Reid Inlet was so not exciting that I couldn’t include it in yesterday’s post and ruin the entire flavor of that day. After all the gorgeous settings we’ve been in on this trip, Reid proved to be the first big disappointment and I guess I am getting spoiled because here we were perched at the bottom of yet another glacier, the Reid Glacier, in a wide open harbor with only two other boats. It just wasn’t very pretty all things considered, it was windy and cold, and the boat kept swinging on the anchor and jerking when it came tight. The tender was banging against the side of the boat and the water was sloshing between the two boats like a washing machine. Ok I guess I’m not being concise am I, taking an entire paragraph writing about one night at Reid Inlet. Anyway, dinner last night was on Lucky Dog, our last dinner together on this trip. Everyone was a bit tired from our busy day but we forced ourselves to bundle up after dinner and dinghy over to the base of the glacier. It was frigid and we were all glad to get back to our warm boats.
We pulled anchor today around 8:30AM to make the 4 hour run down to Bartlett Cove to pick up our guests (family) who are flying in at 4:30PM today. We had to leave early because of the tides – if we waited until noon to leave we would have been fighting against the flood tide all the way down to Bartlett Cove and it would have taken us either a lot more horsepower (i.e. Diesel $$) to fight through it, or it would have taken us 8 hours of running time. It is absolutely socked in today, raining and we had to fire up the radar. Hoping and praying it lifts for our guests so they can see the beautiful scenery here. We will spend 4 more nights up here in Glacier Bay and then our permit will expire on June 20th, so we might head over to Hoonah for the night, or run to the outside so John and his Dad can do some fishing, or if the weather just won’t cooperate then we will meander back in the direction of Juneau. We will be back in the Juneau harbor June 23rd-24th.  I am up at Glacier Bay Lodge using their WiFi so I can post to the blog, catch up on news from the outside, and connect with family. I know you feel like we’ve talked since you know all my news, but don’t forget to email me with your news too! I miss hearing from the outside. I guarantee I will be delayed answering you, but I would love to hear from you. Until next time….
